Level 4 Tony

Today I am going to cover the usage of Give (~te ageru / ~te sashi ageru) & Receive (~te itadaku / ~te morau / ~te kureru). Similar with some words, there are Polite & Inpolite way of usage. When translating back to English, there won’t be any

Very Polite
I lend you a car- Kuruma o kashite sashi agemasu
I buy you a bicycle – Jitensha o katte sashi agemasu

Polite
I lend you a car- Kuruma o kashite agemasu
I buy you a bicycle – Jitensha o katte agemasu

Impolite
I lend you a car- Kuruma o kashite yarimasu
I buy you a bicycle – Jitensha o katte yarimasu

Very Polite
He borrowed me a car – Kuruma o kashite itadakimashita
He bought me a bicycle – Jitensha o katte itadakimashita

Polite
He borrowed me a car – Kuruma o kashite moraimashita
He bought me a bicycle – Jitensha o katte moraimashita

Impolite
He borrowed me a car – Kuruma o kashite kuremashita
He bought me a bicycle – Jitensha o katte kuremashita

See, the meaning are all the same but the usage is depending on the politeness. Hope this is not too confuse 😉

 

Conversation  

Conversation and Level 4 Tony

Today, I will cover some complicated conversations. Be ready….

Conversation 1
Tony : Ohayō gozaimasu. Ame ga (furu)futtari (Yamu)yandari shite, iya na tenki desu ne. Good Morning. The weather is bad as the rain comes and goes.

Kobayashi : Ee, Nihon no 6 gatsu wa tsuyu to itte, mai nichi konna tenki ga (tsuzuku)tsuzukun desu yo. Yeah, In Japan, rainy season falls in every June. During this season, this kind of weather will go on every day.

Tony : Tsuyu ake wa itsu desu yo. When the rainy season ends?

Kobayashi : Toshi (yoru)yotte hayakattari osokattari shimasu ga, Tōkyō de wa, daitai 7 gatsu no nakaba goro made tsuzukimasu. Every year is different as it may end earlier or later but in Tokyo, it ends around middle of July.

Meaning : Ame (Rain), Yamu (Stop), Iya (Not Good), Tsuyu (Rainy Season), Tsuzuku (Continue), Ake (End), Toshi, Yoru (Depends / Base On), Daitai (Around), Nakaba (Middle of)

Conversation 2
Tony : Kono sushi ya wa, itsumo konde iru ne. This Sushi restaurant always full.

Kobayashi : Sō desu ne. Koko wa eki kara chikaishi, nedan mo amari takakunaishi, hairi yasui desu kara ne. Ya. This place is near the station as well as the price is not too expensive. It’s easy to find the way.

Tony : Watashi mo kaisha no kaeri ni tokidoki yorun da ga, itsu demo hito ga (narabu)narande matte iru yo. Dō dai. Chotto ippai nonde ikanai ka. Me too. I sometimes pass by this place but there are always people queuing up. So, how. Shall we go for a drink.

Kobayashi : Ee, Sō shimashō. Kyō wa getsu yōbi dakara, kitto ii neta ga haitte imasu yo. Ya, Sure. Today is Monday, surely there are many new food.

Meaning : Konde (Full / Crowd), Nedan (Price), ~yasui (Easy to~), Tokidoki (Sometime), Yoru (Pass By), Narabu (Queue Up), Kitto (Surely), Neta (Materials / Contents)
