Conversation and Level 4 Tony

Today I will cover a little complicated in conversation session. This time, I will test placing the meaning in an “acronym” code where you can hover your mouse to the words for meaning. I will test this out fr a while. Please comment whether it is better or otherwise.

Tony : Boku, rainen kara kankokugo o naraō to omoun desu ga, nani ka ii kyōkasho o shitte imasu ka. Yondari kaitari dekiru yō ni naritain desu ga.
Tony : I am thinking of learning Korean next year. Do you now of any good textbook? I wish to master the writing and reading.

Kobayashi : Jaa, kondo Toni-san ni atta toki ni sōdan shimashō. Raishū no kayōbi goro ni naru to omoimasu ga, sore demo ii desu ka.
Kobayashi : Then, I will discuss with you when we meet next time. I think next Tuesday would be better, is it OK?

Tony : Hai, zehi onegai shimasu.
Tony : Yes, thanks for your help.

 

~To Omoimasu  

Level 4 Tony

Omoimasu (Omou) is used when you are expressing that you are thinking of doing something. The usage is “Verb follow by Omoimasu”.

Example :
Q : What would you read? – Nani o yomimasu ka
A : I think I’m going to read a novel – Shōsetsu o (yomu)yomō to omoimasu

In the above example, the verb, “yomu (よむ)” is converted into “yomō (よもう）” which means “Let’s Read”. The converted verb “yomō” is same as the polite form-“yomimashō”. Example : Iku – Ikō ; Kaeru – Kaerō ; Nomu – Nomō. The conversion is simple, just change the last hiragana character to the 5th sound and add a “u” if you are writing in hiragana – よむ >> よもう. In romaji, the “mo u” is typed as “mō”.

When “to omoimasu” is used, you cannot use the polite form of verb follow by “to omoimasu”. For instance, “Yomimashō to omoimasu” is WRONG.

A : I think I am going to listen to Japanese News – Nihongo no nyu-su o (kiku)kikō to omoimasu
